White Lung announce their fifth and final album ‘Premonition’

White Lung have announced their fifth and final album ‘Premonition’ – listen to new tracks ‘Date Night’ and ‘Tomorrow’ below.

The Canadian punk band, which formed in 2006, will release the follow-up to 2016’s “Paradise” on December 2 via Domino. You can book it here.

‘Premonition’, about “birth and rebirth”, comes after an involuntary five-year hiatus and a “period of transformation” for the group.

White Lung first started working on the project in his hometown of Vancouver in 2017, before his front woman Mish Barber-Way found out she was pregnant with their first child. The COVID pandemic followed, as did another child.

In a new interview on White Lung’s official website, Barber-Way opened up about how her pregnancy, sobriety and motherhood inspired the upcoming album.

“The first three songs were written, then I found out I was pregnant, and that’s how ‘Premonition’ came about,” she explained.

In ‘Date Night’, Barber-Way goes on a date with God drunk while driving a Cadillac through Los Angeles: “I think I was disturbed by the state of the world, and Los Angeles and my life there,” she said. on how the single.

“I felt like that part of my life was gone, so I projected those feelings of anger and fear onto the city of Los Angeles because it’s safe and comfortable to live in your anger instead of being self- expressive.”

Barber-Way continued: “I imagined driving through Hollywood with God as if we were in the flying car at the end of Grease and asking him what he thinks of the world. God would be drunk, laughing and smoking, and telling me that we are. They are a joke and that we have made a mistake on it. everything. And, of course, God is hot.”

‘Tomorrow’, for her part, was written when the front woman found out she was pregnant:There was a very real sense that life was going to be different forever and I was relieved to welcome that change.”

Both singles are accompanied by a video by Justin Gradin, who also created the cover for ‘Premonition’.

Regarding his decision to end the band at this point, White Lung said: “We recorded this album four years ago and in that time each of our lives has grown and changed so much. We felt that this record is the true end point. “And we’re glad the songs are finally being released.”
