The anime returns after 3 years, with MAPPA studio in charge of the animation for the sequel. Shuhei Yabuta is returning as director, and he said that the rest of the anime’s core staff will also return. The first episode’s staff includes:
- Episode Director: Nobuyoshi Arai, Yusuke Yamamoto
- Storyboard: Shuhei Yabuta
- Animation Directors: Yuki Suzuki, Kenji Wakasa, Ayano Fujita, Miyuki Honda, Lee Mi Young, Akiko Kudo, Toshiko Inada
They also revealed the preview for episode 1, which is titled “Slave” and has an official synopsis:
Einar, a young man from the north of England, lived with his mother and younger sister in a quiet farming town. However, one day the farming village is destroyed by a Viking attack and Einar’s life changes completely. Now, once again, the saga of true warriors begins in a tumultuous age…
The main cast returns for a second season. Yuto Uemura will once again be Torfin, Kensho Ohno as Kanute, Yoji Ueda as Leif, Akio Otsuka as Thorkel, Hideaki Tezuka as Ketil, Shinsuke Takeuchi as Einar, Mayumi Sako as Arnheide, Taiten Kusunoki as Torgil, Fuminori Komatsu as Snake, Muhihito as Sverkel and Yu Hayashi as Olmar. A new millennium begins in the southern part of the Jutland peninsula in Denmark. After the death of his longtime enemy, Askelad, Torfin loses his purpose in life. He was bought by the landowner Ketil as a “slave” and engaged in land reclamation on his farm. Thorfinn meets a young man there, Einar, who was also a slave like him. Meeting Einar makes Thorfinn face the sins he has committed and begins to find meaning in life. On the other hand, Cnut, who became king of England, tried to expand his territory for the creation of the “promised land”. This is “The Story of a True Warrior (Saga)”.
