Ville Valo on why he doesn’t use social media: “I still believe in imagination”

Ville Valo explained in an interview why he does not use social networks.

The former HIM frontman does not have personal accounts on any social media nor does he control his own Heartagram accounts, as he has given all the passwords to his record label.

“I don’t feel comfortable,” he told Interview (via Louder). “I don’t have much to say. And I think it will be easy with this game that you start it and you can’t stop. And I think it’s better to stay out.

“I don’t have passwords or anything like that for Heartagram. I gave them all away. I don’t want to wake up in the middle of the night and suddenly start typing truth in all caps. Because that’s exactly what I want I probably do.

“The record company communicates through Heartagram – the Facebook and Instagram and Twitter, I guess, too. I’m not really sure.”

Valo also said that staying away from social media allows him to maintain an air of mystery, which other artists have long admired.

“I’ve always liked artists who are a bit mysterious, and I like that there’s a sense of detachment. And that gives, I think, to people, and to me as a listener, it makes my imagination harder,” he continued.

“And I think that when you really start to imagine things and start to build ideas about an artist, that is much more powerful and special and unique than little information, the constant bombardment of information, on the media social.”

Valo will release her debut solo album “Neon Noir” on January 13th. Announcing the record, Valo said, “Neon Noir is a step-by-step sonic guide to surviving, and maybe even enjoying, the VV realm with its plethora of things that make noise in the night. It’s a mask- intoned it. “a tearjerker between Robert Smith and Ozzy, with a hint of hope”.

Valo will also tour the UK and Europe in support of the album next year. You can see the full list of dates below and buy your tickets here.
