The previously announced Nameless memory the anime adaptation was pushed back to 2024 due to production issues. The anime was supposed to premiere later this year, as originally announced in December 2022. Studio ENGI animated the adaptation of the popular light novel.
Nameless memory is a light novel series written by Kouji Furumiya. It originally launched on the user-generated content website Shosetsuka ni Naro in 2012 and was later picked up by ASCII Media Works and published under their Dengeki no Shin Bungei imprint with Chibi illustrations. The light novel serialization ran from January 2019 to April 2021 and ended after six volumes. A manga adaptation is currently underway with art by Naoki Koshimizu.
Yen Press licenses both a light novel and on manga in English and describes the plot of the light novel as:
“My wish as a champion is for you to come down from the tower and become my wife.”
Climbing a deadly tower, Oscar seeks the power of its master, the Witch of the Azure Moon. He hopes her incredible magic will break a curse that will kill any woman he marries. However, when the prince sees how beautiful Tinasha is, he has a better idea – since she is surely strong enough to survive his curse, she should just marry him! Tinasha is not keen on the idea, but agrees to live with Oscar in the royal castle for a year while she investigates the spell cast on the prince. The witch’s beautiful face hides several lifetimes of dark secrets, but secrets that are beginning to resurface…
The manga synopsis has a different perspective:
Once upon a time in a land far away, a beautiful witch lived on top of a tall tower with no intention of coming down. Instead, she awaited the brave knight who would overcome many dangers to meet her. If one triumphed over her many traps, she would grant him his every wish. One day such a brave prince did arrive and he asked her to rid him of the curse that prevented him from producing an heir. But another witch’s curse cannot be lifted so easily, and the only way to save his bloodline… is to become his bride?!
