Trigun Stampede is based on a manga series by Yasuhiro Naitou that was serialized on Monthly Shonen Captain from April 1995 to January 1997 and then moved to OUR young king, where it remained from October 1997 to March 2007. It then received an anime adaptation by Madhouse, which consisted of twenty-six episodes. It aired from April to September 1998. It also received an anime film adaptation titled Trigun: Badlands Rumble in 2010.
A dark horse has licensed the manga in English, describing the plot as:
In the forbidding desert world of Gunsmoke, a mysterious bounty hangs over Vash the Stampede’s head, and the gun-toting pacifist can’t seem to find a moment’s respite. Vash is no ordinary pistolero equipped with a weapon capable of punching holes in a planet, which explains why the locals tremble at the mere mention of his name. But sixty billion double dollars is no ordinary bounty, and every lucky psychopath in creation is out to claim you dead or alive—preferably dead!
