They collect signatures for a Chainsaw Man anime remake

We’ve talked before about the weird fan base of anime adaptations Chain Saw Man, from people who praise it and place it as the best series of the year or even in history, to people who hate it simply because it is popular. However, it seems that the Japanese Twitter user is not really happy with what he is saying. MAP doing the adaptation, to the point that he has started a collection of signatures to restart the project.

For this he has arrived on the scene change.org, we already know that it is a platform for collecting signatures that has lost all seriousness since it started being used for memes. However, apparently this is no joke at all. Unlike those who open non-funny campaigns with a “funny phrase” as a description, this user has compiled a long document describing the reasons why the project should be restarted.

His petition has even reached comment forums in Japan, and as of the date of writing, already has just over 700 signatures. But, let’s take a closer look at some of the main points in your document.

«A petition to remake the anime adaptation of “Chainsaw Man” with a different director», is the title of the application listed by the user. The reasons, according to the user’s criteria (and the other 700 people who signed), are:

  • However, the anime adaptation has been controversial since it began airing. The reason for this is that while the high quality of the animation has been well received, there is a huge gap between the director, Ryuu Nakayama, and the fans when it comes to the representation of the original work. It is not an exaggeration to say that the project was a real failure, and there was unpopularity on social networks and anonymous forums.
  • In light of this situation, I am petitioning Shueisha and Studio MAPPA demanding that Chainsaw Man be revived with a new director who has a better understanding of the original work. The voices of many fans will help make this happen, so do your part by signing the online petition.

In addition, it also highlights the following criticisms that have emerged on social networks in Japan towards various points of the animation project:

  • a. Director’s interpretation of the original work: The “Japanese” direction from the director Ryuu Nakayama is very interesting. The hyper-realism and eroticism of the animation undermines the “momentum” and “gags” considered attractive in the original work. Other criticisms of the overall story structure and optimization of the anime adaptation’s pacing include the few pauses and jumps in each episode, and the fact that “the Katana Man arc takes too long.”
  • As a counterpoint to these, there are many comments on social networks and anonymous forums that Dorohedoro has been indicated by the same studio, the animation production company TRIGGER, Tarantino films and B-movies as the ideal direction for this project.. As a reference to interpret the original work, Kenshi Yonezu, whose work was very well received with the opening, describes ‘Chainsaw Man’ as follows: “Denji’s presence makes the environment and the serious problems around him even more amusing. And I think that’s really fascinating“.
  • b. Storyboard/Guide: In general, fight scenes and comedy scenes get a bad rap. Lack of animation intensity, CG animation, and the removal of cartoon effects were cited as factors. Although the battle scenes in episodes 1 and 3 in particular have been criticized, episode 4 was generally well received.
  • Many people say they want to preserve the unique composition and image of the original work. The opening video has gone a long way in terms of animation, while the final videos have had a mixed reception.
  • c. Music, Sound, Voice Acting:
    • Music: Background music is a favorite because it’s not exciting or memorable.
    • Sound: There are many complaints about the power of the sound effects, especially the soothing chainsaw sound, and there is a strong demand for a sound that sounds more like engines than motorcycles.
    • voice acting: The comedy scenes are mostly problematic, as they are annoying because of trying too hard to “make it real”, so the actors don’t talk properly. A particular highlight is the performance of the main character Denji. Compared to the original, Denji’s performance is grim and distinctly lacking in insanity, and his portrayal by Toya Kikunosuke is unpopular.. Even before the anime adaptation, Nobuhiko Okamoto was strongly asked to play the same role.
    • On the other hand, Toya’s performance of the same character is very welcome, but in the Monster Strike video game, and based on his acting training, he is more than capable of satisfying the demands of the fans.. It was clearly not under the director’s orders.

Will something be achieved with this signature collection that ends on December 31, 2022 in Japan? We’ll see! Finally, let’s see what the user in question wrote in his conclusion:

  • Thanks for reading this far. As a fan of Chainsaw Man, I was very disappointed in this anime adaptation while looking forward to it. Undoubtedly some of the best content, like the drawings and the music, is there it makes me sad to see newbies leave because they think this is the real Chainsaw Man. I wouldn’t have a problem if what bored them was a faithful adaptation of the original manga, but that’s not what they’re getting.
  • I’m sure there are many Chainsaw Man and Tatsuki Fujimoto fans around the country and the world who have been eagerly waiting for the anime to air and feel more or less the same way. It’s a simple signature that will only take a few minutes of your time. Help us by signing the petition or spreading the word about our activities.

Summary for Chain Saw Man

The story takes place in a world where Demons threaten the peace of the people, making them targets for elimination. Denji is a depressed young man who sold some of his organs and works as a lumberjack and devil hunter to pay his late father’s debts. Denji (who is also a demon) has a dog named Pochita, who has a chainsaw and uses it to do his work.

This is explained by the fact that humans can make contracts with demons. After returning home from a job, Yakuza asks Denji to infiltrate a building and kill another demon. However, the plan to assassinate him turned out to be a trap as part of the Yakuza’s deal with the devil, which gained them more power. But Pochita comes to Denji’s aid and bonds with him, becoming half-man, half-demon and possessing Pochita’s chainsaw.
