The Weeknd abruptly ended his performance in Los Angeles last night (September 3), stopping the show at a sold-out stadium for three songs.

According to fan images, the artist left the stage letting the song end without him. Returning to the stage with the house lights on, The Weeknd told his stunned audience: “I’m going to make sure everybody’s okay, I’m going to give you your money back. But I’ll put on a show for you soon .”

Last night’s concert opened with a screening of the trailer for The Idol, the upcoming drama series created by The Weeknd and Euphoria director Sam Levinson.

The series – which stars The Weeknd, Troye Sivan, Lily-Rose Depp and BLACKPINK’s Jennie in her acting debut – will premiere on HBO later this year.

The Weeknd’s latest album, “Dawn FM,” was released in January. In a four-star review by NME’s Rhian Daly, the aftermath of 2020’s ‘After Hours’ felt like “the first steps in a journey for The Weeknd to find peace with himself”.
