The band one of the ninth volume compilation of the manga written by kanehito yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, Sousou no Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End), confirmed the production of an anime adaptation of the project. On the other hand, Yamada and Abe started publishing the manga in the magazine Weekly Shōnen Sunday from the publisher Shogakukan in April 2020. The publisher published the eighth compilation volume in June 2022, and will publish the ninth on September 15 in Japan. The literary franchise was previously reported to have exceeded 5.6 million copies in circulation.
Summary of Sousou no Frieren
The Demon King has been defeated, and the victorious group of warriors have returned to their respective homes after retiring. The four of them (mage Frieren, warrior Himmel, priest Heiter, and warrior Eisen) recall their ten-year journey as it’s time to say goodbye. But the passage of time is different for elves, so Frieren witnesses his beloved companions slowly dying.
Before his death, Heiter manages to charge Frieren with a young apprentice named Fern. Driven by the elf’s passion to collect many magical spells, the two go on a seemingly aimless journey, revisiting the places visited by the old heroes. During his travels, Frieren slowly grapples with his regrets over missed opportunities to form deeper bonds with his late comrades.
