The upcoming Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu the film unveiled a new visual teaser along with a short teaser trailer. No word yet on a potential release date or personnel information.
The franchise is based onTouken Ranbuvideo game and already has several anime adaptations. The first TV animeToken Ranbu: Hanamaruaired in the fall season of 2016. Studio Doga Kobo animated the series, which had 12 episodes. Continued with titleZoku Touken Ranbu: Hanamarureleased winter 2018Katsugeki/Touken Ranbuwhich is related to the upcoming movie aired in summer 2017 season and was animated by ufotable.Crunchyroll streamed the anime. Token Ranbu: Hanamaru a film trilogy is also in the works.
The action takes place in 1863. Japan is divided. Pro-Shogunate forces and anti-Shogunate factions battle as the Age of the Sword draws to a close. Sword warriors are something – spirits that live in swords. Horikawa Kunihiro manifests as a Sword Warrior and joins Izuminokami Kanesada after they meet while serving the same master. Together they struggle to survive and protect the world from historical revisionists sent from the future to change the course of history.
The franchise originated from a browser card gameTouken Ranbu. The game launched in Japan in 2015, while the global release came in April this year. In addition to the two anime adaptations, there are also two stage plays inspired by the franchise, as well as a live-action film and a standalone game.
