The Japanese did not like the pregnancy in Kaguya-sama

The article “Teenage Pregnancy in Kaguya-sama The Japanese Didn’t Please” includes spoilers for the latest chapters of “Kaguya-sama: Love is War.”

The latest chapter of the popular manga written and illustrated by akasaka, Kaguya-sama: Love is War became a trend among Japanese fans due to the obvious plot twist that may have caused the “Maki Shijou arc“. It should be remembered that she is Kaguya’s cousin, in love with her best friend’s boyfriend, Nagisa Kashiwagi.

In the latest chapters, which of course serves as the conclusion of this arc, Nagisa decided to break up with her boyfriend to allow Maki to have a “free pass”. Maki felt frustrated by this situation, mocked her for her decision and demanded to apologize to her ex-boyfriend and return to him. But the pressure brought nausea to Nagisa, who went to the doctor and confirmed a diagnosis: she is three months pregnant.

It is likely that early pregnancy is a very common occurrence in Latin America, but it is certainly not much in Japan. Perhaps this is why the event attracted a variety of opinions from the Japanese.:

  • «Leaving aside that student pregnancy is scary. Why is Akasaka-sensei screaming characters one after the other? are you drunk».
  • «On the latest chapter of “Kaguya-sama: Love is War”, it’s one thing to think about celebrating your teenage girl’s unwanted pregnancy, but to use it as a comedic device or a punch line? Is the author an idiot? Don’t you know this is a no joke situation?».
  • «I read the latest chapter of “Kaguya-sama: Love is War”, and I feel frustrated. I am angry, so much that I cannot sleep. Student pregnancy as a “happy ending” to an arc? It is a disgusting way of thinking».
  • «This week’s episode of “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” tried to make the topic of student pregnancy funny… And the reaction of the other characters seems awful to me».
  • «I read “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” in Young Jump. Is this serious? three months pregnant without detecting it? I’m shocked and speechless, I can’t imagine anyone finding it funny».
  • «The boy’s bane is getting bigger and bigger, but the story of “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” is so scattered now that I have no idea what’s going on with the timeline. First they talk about the student’s pregnancy and then they make fun of it, how annoying».
  • «Even as a high school student, he was stupid enough to get his girlfriend pregnant. He didn’t explain to me how Akasaka-sensei thinks that’s a “good and happy ending” to his arc. I never liked Kashiwagi-san, so I don’t care that she got pregnant in high school.».
  • «The chapter of “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” left me, to put it simply, very disappointed. Never make the topic of underage pregnancy funny, especially someone with so much influence».
