Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnights’ will be the best-selling album of 2022 after just one week
Taylor Swift has broken another record with her 10th studio album ‘Midnights’, becoming the latest artist to score a double on the official charts with her album and single ‘Anti-Hero’ hitting number one on the album charts official and single at the same time.
According to new data from the Official Charts Company released today, Swift has moved 204,000 UK chart sales in just seven days, more than double her previous record of 90,300, which she achieved when she was her album 1989′ back in 2014.
Released last Friday (October 21), the singer-songwriter’s 10th studio album broke Spotify’s record for most albums streamed in a single day, a feat Swift called “mind-boggling”.
The Official Chart Company has also reported that Arctic Monkeys’ run of six number one albums in the UK has been broken. His album “The Car” debuted at number two with over 100,000 sales in its first week.
“Congratulations to Taylor Swift on her incredible achievement of breaking 200,000 sales this week,” Martin Talbot, CEO of Official Charts Company, said in a statement. “We always knew this was going to be a big week for Taylor and Arctic Monkeys fans following the release of their new album, and their combined first week total of over 320,000 chart sales shows that they have a lot of fun before release.
Midnights” is Swift’s ninth consecutive number one album, and the singer-songwriter sets a new all-time official chart record for the fastest succession of nine UK number one albums since to conceive any female artist, a title that belonged to Madonna.
In a four-star review of ‘Midnights,’ Hannah Mylrea from the NMEwrote: “The country roots he nurtured are absent from his re-recorded albums, and the country influences of his final project are largely absent. Instead, he weaves these new stories together through elegant pop synthesis, in part. with ‘1989’ or ‘Lover’, but the sharp expression of these albums is more subtle this time”.
