STAYC have produced a lively new version of Miss A’s famous song ‘Only You’.
The “Only You” cover was made in collaboration with MUPLY, a K-pop production company, and was uploaded to their official YouTube channel today (December 29). The cover is also part of MUPLY’s Ply Arts High School video series, in which various K-pop artists and acts are invited to perform cover songs on the same stage, which is set up to look like a high school auditorium. Other artists previously invited as part of the series include VIVIZ, LE SSERAFIM, SEVENTEEN’s Jun, and more.
In the video, the six members of STAYC perform a live vocal and dance version of the classic theme, on the same stage decorated with winter and Christmas motifs. The group’s version of “Only You” stays true to Miss A’s original song.
STAYC last released music earlier this year, in July, with the solo album “We Need Love”. The four-song disc was headlined by the song “Beautiful Monster”, followed by “I Like It”, “Love”, and TAK’s remix of the group’s previous song, “RUN2U”. The original song “RUN2U” was released as the lead single from her February mini album “YOUNG-LUV.COM.”
The four songs on “We Need Love” were written and composed by hit makers Black Eyed Pilseung, regular STAYC collaborator Jeon Goon, and producers Rado and Flyt. Black Eyed Pilseung are also executives on STAYC’s High Up Entertainment label.
NME’s Tanu I. Raj, in a three-star review of We Need Love, criticized the group for playing it safe on the album: “Despite the individual strength of its songs, We Need Love leaves a lot to be desired. seems to lack not only the aforementioned experimental vehicle that STAYC is involved with, but also complexity in the story they construct.”
They continued: “But if this is a transition to another era, it is a transition that STAYC has made without curiosity and with complete disregard for rules that characterized their earlier content.”
