Shane MacGowan, of the Pogues, is recovering in hospital after being admitted to intensive care.
The musician spent several days in the ICU for an unspecified health problem, as confirmed by his wife Victoria Mary Clarke. He is believed to have been in hospital in Dublin since the end of June.
“He is still in hospital but he is doing well and receiving care,” he told The Irish Sunday Mirror. I didn’t want to worry about people. He’s out of ICU and he’s fine.” [vía DublinLive]
Clarke commented on MacGowan’s health scare in an Instagram post last month in which she tagged his account.
“There has been a lot of turmoil in my life lately and it has been very emotional and scary too,” she wrote.
“But in the last few days I have noticed that although there is a lot of fear, there is also an incredible amount of love and support and blessings. I think our minds can be VERY resistant to change and our lives are being shaken up and rearranged and we have to be very gentle and patient with ourselves…”
“Being present with your emotions is a challenge. Thank you to everyone who supported me and @shanemacgowanofficial.”
MacGowan has been using a wheelchair since 2015, after a fall that broke his pelvis. He also tore up his knee and tore a ligament in 2020.
The singer was hospitalized in December after contracting encephalitis, and was released just in time for Christmas.
In May, Mac Gowan met Bruce Springsteen while the artist was on tour in Ireland. Clarke posted a picture of the two musicians during Springsteen’s visit on Twitter: “What an honor and experience to have a visit from The Boss,” he wrote in the caption, tagging both. “Such a wonderful man and an absolute genius!”
