Shakira will receive the Video Vanguard Award at the 2023 edition of the MTV VMAs.
The 2023 VMAs will take place on Tuesday, September 12 at 8:00 pm ET at the prestigious Prudence Center in New Jersey.
Nicki Minaj won the Video Vanguard award in 2022, and other previous winners have included Madonna, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Jennifer Lopez and Missy Elliott.

Otherwise, at the 2023 VMAs, Taylor Swift, Doja Cat and SZA top the list of nominees, which was revealed earlier this month.
Swift tops the list with eight nominations, SZA got six, and Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo and Sam Smith have five. The entire group of artists has also been nominated for this year’s Video of the Year category.
There are also plenty of first-time nominees at this year’s VMAs, 35 to be exact. These are Petras, Metro Boomin, Boygenius, Fletcher, Rema, Arya Starr, Burna Boy, Davido, GloRilla, Ice Spice, Kaliii, Featherweight, PinkPantheress and Reneé Rapp.
In July it was revealed that Shakira is being investigated for alleged tax fraud in Spain for a second time.
The singer was first accused of tax fraud in July 2021, when the Barcelona prosecutor’s office claimed she should have paid taxes because she lived in Spain for more than half the year between 2012 and 2014.
The authorities allegedly have $13.9 million (£13 million) on him. Shakira insisted her tax residence was in the Bahamas at the time and called the claims “false”, saying she had paid what she owed.
