MONSTA X’s IM has officially signed with Sony Music Korea after leaving Starship Entertainment.
Sony Music Korea announced on November 16 that IM would be added to its artist roster, an “exclusive” partnership that the record label says will “accelerate his burgeoning solo career.” Other musicians currently on the label include Korean rapper sokodomo, singer-songwriter Demian, and indie singer msftz. K-pop girl group EXID has also been managed as a unit by Sony Music Korea, especially since they reunited as a group in September.
“I look forward to creating my personal sound with Sony Music Entertainment Korea, especially as I continue to develop my music career and mature as an artist,” IM said of her new signing to the label in a press release. “I’m looking forward to showing my fans another side of me and connecting with them with new music.”
He also said that he was “sincerely grateful for the experiences I’ve had over the past seven years, and for the career I’ve built with the MONSTA X team members.” “I look forward to new challenges and the opportunity to push the boundaries as an artist,” said the Korean idol.
Sony Music Korea CEO Bobby Ju also spoke about IM’s new contract “IM has had a very successful career. Sony Music has been a launch pad for many talented artists around the world and we are pleased to partner with IM in the next phase of their part. music tour,” he told reporters.
IM’s signing to Sony Music Korea comes four months after he opted not to renew his contract with his former label Starship Entertainment in August, making him the only MONSTA X member to do so. However, both Starship Entertainment and Sony Music Korea have confirmed that IM has a separate agreement with the former company to remain part of the K-pop boyband, despite being under different labels.
In a handwritten letter shared shortly after his departure from Starship, IM told fans that he had decided to leave the company in favor of “a new challenge with a different meaning.” “So after much thought, I have come to this decision. I would like to sincerely thank my Starship family members with whom I have spent many days, laughing and crying together so far,” who read his letter.
