Playstation Plus Premium Includes a Game Changing Demo Feature

A new report claims that the Premium series will include an unannounced feature in the PlayStation Plus refresh: time-limited demos for almost every major game.

According to sources at Game Developer, Sony has been urging all developers to start creating time – limited demos of at least two hours for their upcoming games, with only a few exceptions to this new rule. The biggest exception is budget games, as the mandate only applies to titles of $ 34 or more. This means that digital games would not have to offer fewer demos (although it could be argued that their developers could do so if the idea comes along). It will also not apply to PlayStation VR games or those released before the new policy came into effect, according to the report.

Exhibits may also not be available at the launch. Game Developer says the policy allows studios a three – month grace period after release, so you may not be able to try out a game you were expecting right away.

Lastly, according to the report, these demos only need to be available to PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers for 12 months, which means they may not last forever.

As a reminder, Premium will be at the highest level of the new PlayStation Plus, at $ 18 per month or $ 120 per year. In addition to a catalog of over 400 PS5 and PS4 games, Premium also includes 340 additional games from the original PS3, PS2, PSP and PlayStation. This level also allows streaming to the cloud, but not PlayStation 5 games, which would suggest that these new game tests would not be able to use streaming, at least initially.

If the report is accurate, this move would be an effective way for Sony to differentiate its new PS Plus offering from its biggest competitor, Xbox Game Pass. Game Pass does not offer any equivalent tests for games outside of its current catalog.

What is not clear at this point is whether the developers will simply stick a timer into the existing game and allow players to download all the files, which could be detrimental. great for the feature. It’s bad enough to download more than 100GB of full games. It would be an even greater hassle to have to spend that bandwidth and hard drive space just for display.

The new PlayStation Plus launches June 13 in North America and June 22 in Europe.
