Peter Andre, aka “Boss of Summer Holidays”, has encouraged radio stations to ban the Christmas song “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year”.
The pop singer and TV personality has written an open letter to British radio stations asking them to ban the classic after a recent poll revealed that the majority of the British public think the summer holidays are over. the festive period.
Travel company On The Beach claims the song is wrong after a poll revealed 78% of the public believe going on holiday is better than Christmas.
The 1963 Andy Williams classic, which is synonymous with Christmas, is in question. The song is number 22 on the UK Official Singles Chart this week.
Andre agreed with On The Beach’s findings, writing in his open letter: “The survey results don’t surprise me. Sure the holidays are fun, but let’s face it, Christmas can be repetitive and stressful.
“It’s so much more exciting to visit new places, experience new things and make meaningful memories, and there’s no better place to do that than on holiday.
“In my new job [como responsable de las vacaciones de verano], all I have to do now is ask radio stations to respect the British point of view and stop playing ‘It’s the most wonderful time of the year’ at Christmas. Maybe they can put it on a loop in July?
André also referred to section 3 of the PAC Broadcasting Code, accusing radio stations of misleading advertising for playing the song on the night before 25 December.
“By playing this track they are giving their listeners a false hope that Christmas and winter in general is the most wonderful time of the year, when in fact it is not.
“And I even have the data to prove it! The latest On the Beach results have confirmed what we already suspected: 78% of people, that’s more than three quarters of Brits, believe that it better to go on holiday than Christmas.
“So, not surprisingly, the vast majority of the population (85%) agree that Andy Williams’ song is wrong and shows that Christmas is not the most wonderful time of the year. Although I recognize that there are some very pleasant moments during the Christmas holidays, they are usually fleeting and often come with a busy schedule, an empty wallet and create a small one.
“Take away the presents, the tinsel and the twinkling lights, and people are left with the stark reality that this time of year is cold, dark and expensive.”
And he says: “If we add to this the cost of living crisis, the national strikes, the general rise in prices and the general bad mood of the nation, you understand what I mean. Not like the Grinch, but like with pride. manager Ó Ar an Trá summer holidays, I tell you, sir or madam, that there are escape routes abroad the most wonderful time of the year.
“Time to make memories with loved ones, splash in the sea with the kids, enjoy the sunset on the beach and rediscover yourself. All these are magical factors that make it the most wonderful time of the year.
“Therefore, I ask you to refrain from reproducing the community which is really misleading. And solid data collected by On The Beach supports my request.”
