The anime adaptation of Baku Yumemakura Onmyoji series has revealed its main cast, along with a November 28 release date. Netflix will exclusively stream the anime. The cast for Onmyoji the anime includes:
- Daisuke Namikawa as Abe Seimei
- Shintaro Asanuma as Minamoto Hiromasa
- Yui Ishikawa as Tsuyuko
- Kenji Hamada as Imperial Prince Atsumi
- Daisuke Kishio as Kamo Yasunori
- Rina Sato as Ashiya Doman
The Onmyoji anime was first announced at the Netflix TUDUM 2022 event, with studio Marvy Jack (Spice and wolf season 2, Koiken!: Watashitachi Anime ni Nacchatta!) you animate it. Subi Yamamoto is directing the series, and Natsu Hashimoto and Yuiko Kato are in charge of the script.
Baku Yumemakura writes Onmyoji novel series since September 1986. The novel series published by Bungeishunju follows onmyoji named Abe no Seimei, who is a master of onmyodo, a traditional Japanese form of cosmology.
The novel series spawned a manga adaptation by Reiko Okano, which was serialized from 1993 to 2005. A sequel titled Onmyoji: Tamatebakoalso by Okano, was serialized from 2010 to 2017. Another manga titled Onmyoji: So Yashahime was written by Munku Mitsuki and was serialized from 2012 to 2015.
Onmyoji has received various live-action adaptations over the years: a 2001 Japanese TV drama adaptation, two live-action films directed by Yojiro Takita in 2001 and 2003, and two separate films aired on Japanese television in 2015 and 2020 Chinese live action film adaptation titled Master Yin-Yang: Dream of Eternity from 2020 also exists: it is directed by Guo Jingming.
