Olivia Wilde has addressed rumors that Harry Styles was trolling Chris Pine at the Don’t Worry Darling premiere.
Director Stephen Colbert was interviewed on The Late Show and asked about various rumors surrounding the film during its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, including a video that was widely interpreted as Styles spitting on a co- Pine star.
“Another one of our weird rumors, the Spit-Gate, I think you might have heard…” Wilde began, before Colbert cut her off and asked from a note card, “Was Harry Styles spitting on Chris. Pain? Why or why not? Support your answer.”
“No, it wasn’t. But I think it’s a great example of people looking for drama anywhere they can. Harry didn’t really spit on Chris…” Wilde replied, before Colbert joked: “Only time will tell”.
Both Pine and Styles have since denied rumors of the incident, with Pine’s rep saying: “This is a ridiculous story – a complete fabrication and the result of a bizarre online illusion that is clearly misleading and allows for silly speculation.
Styles mocked the rumors at his first concert at Madison Square Garden after returning from Venice.
“It’s great, great, great to be back in New York,” Styles said onstage at his 10th performance at the venue. “I came too quickly to Venice to spit on Chris Pine.”
Don’t Worry Darling will be released in theaters on September 23.
