Noel Gallagher has revealed what made him “upset” about Adele calling the singer “fucking awful” and her voice “offensive”.
In July, the High Flying Birds frontman and former Oasis frontman took aim at the multi-Grammy Award-winning British singer while discussing her discourse.
He made these comments in conversation with podcast host Matt Morgan, who asked Gallagher if he was a fan of Adele’s music.
“Fuck fucking you. Name one?” he replied (via The Mirror). “They’re fucking shit. It’s fucking horrible. It’s fucking Cilla Black. I find it offensive and all.”
Now Gallagher has revealed what prompted such a strong response from Adele. On Matt Morgan’s podcast, the musician said that his frustration stemmed from an invitation from the “Dia duit” singer to meet, but not directly from her.
“I don’t think I ever went out of my way to start anything, it was always a reaction to some fucking idiot getting a chance in the first place,” said Gallagher. “You know me, I’m very reserved.”
The artist said that Adele “sent someone to ask her, fucking: ‘Do I want to meet her? That’s what made me sad.”
“I’m not one to make a scene, I just put it in the vault and I think revenge is a dish served cold.”
Elsewhere in the original interview, the Britpop icon said he could imagine himself writing songs for her when she retired from concerts.
“If I fell out of love with touring, I could see myself sitting at home writing songs and submitting them to publishers,” he began. “I might come out here. I’ll say, ‘Get Adele to sing that. Don’t call until she’s done the lead vocal.’
Gallagher has often spoken highly of his favorite musical artists, most recently focusing on The 1975 and, in particular, their frontman Matty Healy. First he called it a “loose-jawed asshole”, and then the Manchester singer-songwriter revealed to NME that he considered the band to be “shit” and “not rock”.
He also criticized Little Mix after they became the first girl group to take home the British Group award at the Brits.
Adele, for her part, is currently doing her “Weekends with Adele” residency in Las Vegas, at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, which will last until November of this year.
