Nick Grimshaw Remembers Throwing Up In Front Of Drake After Smoking Weed At A Party
Nick Grimshaw wrote about the time he spent in front of Drake and other musicians after smoking at the MTV VMAs after party in 2010.
The TV presenter and former BBC Radio 1 presenter recalls the unfortunate incident in his new autobiography Soft Boy, out this Thursday (October 27).
In an excerpt published by The Sun, Grimshaw explained that his friend Florence Welch (Florence + The Machine) invited him to a party at Drake’s studio in the United States.
“Drake played a few songs and Flo wailed as someone went around a comically sized joint. I started smoking and smiled at Drake,” wrote Grimshaw.
But soon he started to feel sick: “I put a foot outside and vomited for 30 minutes,” he said.
Although he managed to vomit, security footage of the vomit was shown to everyone present.
He continued: “I walked back in, pale and smelling faintly of vomit. The room exploded with laughter. I looked up and saw a CCTV screen showing the exact location of the vomiting episode. I broadcast it live on the studio” .
Elsewhere in her memoir, Grimshaw shares stories about her friend, the late Amy Winehouse, and other famous friends, including supermodel Kate Moss.
He said of Winehouse, “We’d go back to her house and get on her electric tanning bed. We’d sit on the floor next to each other and lean our heads back to tan our faces while smoking cigarettes and elite drink. Red Stripe.”
Earlier this year, Grimshaw caught up with NME on the red carpet at the 2022 NME BandLab Awards, where he discussed the “magic” of Jack Antonoff, as well as some of his favorite NME memories of the past.
In Drake news, the rapper/singer has announced a collaboration album with 21 Savage, ‘Her Loss,’ to be released next week.
