Nick Cave confirms that he plans to write a new album

Nick Cave has confirmed that he plans to write a new album later this year.

After a summer full of festivals and the release of his new book Faith, Hope and Carnage, Cave and his frequent collaborator Warren Ellis will return to Australia next month for a solo tour ending on December 17 in Sydney.

Speaking to journalist Sean O’Hagan at a question and answer session at the Southbank Center in London last night (October 27), Cave confirmed that once the tour is over, he will start writing a new album.

“The point is that it comes, and I know what it implies,” he told the audience, “it is about a man who sits in his space and faces a complete lack of ideas about things. I don’t collect ideas, I don’t write stuff or put on a cool title or anything. I don’t do those things. I make a date and sit down and start writing a record.”

Cave added: “The initial sit-in comes from a complete lack of ideas, and every line I write seems to confirm that I’m not very good at what I do. It’s a very slow process to get one line together and put it next to another… he’s micromanaging these words to make something work, and it grows.. That initial thing, it’s not very nice. I wish it wasn’t.

“I read that Neil Young wrote the whole of ‘Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere’ in bed one day with the flu. Is that true? And I’m like, ‘Fuck you, man!’ I loved that record.”

Cave’s last album with The Bad Seeds, ‘Gosteen’, came out in 2019. In 2021, he and Ellis released the ‘Carnage’ LP as a duo, which they toured the UK with last year, and which will take him to Australia. month.

Separately, at the Southbank Q&A, Cave discussed Kanye West’s recent anti-Semitic comments, saying they were “very disappointing” and “disgraceful.”

“There’s Kanye now, making anti-Semitic comments,” he said. “Kanye is, to me, arguably, the greatest artist of our generation, in my opinion, I love his music. ‘Yeezus’ and those gospel records … those gospel records are unlike anything I’ve ever heard.” .

“But for me to bring up these anti-Semitic tropes, I think it’s personally shameful. Does this person need to come down from such a great height to this tedious shit that we’ve heard so many times? it’s a big disappointment for me. , and for a while it can be difficult for me personally to listen to a Kanye record, but at the same time I appreciate the production, on some level.”

Cave added: “At the end of the day, I appreciate the production, and I know I’ll be able to get over that in time and listen to Kanye’s music again. It won’t be boring.” always with the worst aspect of his character, and the music he makes is a journey from the worst aspect of his character, as is all our music.”
