New songs from Dolly Parton, Debbie Harry, Cyndi Lauper and more
Dolly Parton, Debbie Harry and Cyndi Lauper are some of the artists who came together on a new song called ‘Gonna Be You’.
Diane Warren wrote the theme for the upcoming movie 80 For Brady, which stars Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and others.
An official synopsis for the film directed by Kyle Marvin states: “80 For Brady is inspired by the true story of four best friends whose lives are full when they take a wild trip to Super Bowl LI in 2017 to watch their hero play. Tom Brady.”
In a statement on the subject of ‘Gonna Be You’ (via Rolling Stone), Warren explained: “I wanted to write a song that celebrated the deep friendship of these women.
“Since there was 80 in the title I had a crazy idea why not hear it from some of the most iconic singers of the 80s who are still great and always will be.”
Warren added: “Everyone I met said yes and I was as excited as I was!”
The single, which arrives on January 20, will feature a collaboration between Belinda Carlisle and Gloria Estefan.
Carlisle said on Instagram that it was an “honour” to sing with Parton, Harry, Lauper and Estefan on ‘Gonna Be You’: “It was hard to keep this secret,” he wrote alongside the song’s cover.
80 For Brady will be released in the US on February 3 through Paramount Pictures. You can watch the official trailer above.
Meanwhile, Dolly Parton and Dionne Warwick are putting together a collaborative gospel song. Called “Peace Like a River”, Warwick has described the upcoming song as “very special”.
