Netflix would have killed the enthusiasm for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

The threshold Running Game published an article noting that the release schedule for new episodes of the anime JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean in Netflix fan enthusiasm for the franchise was killed. It turns out that the distance between releases was so wide, compared to a week as it was in previous seasons, that the hype is lost even a month after the premiere.

«JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure used to air weekly, and fans loved that schedule. They didn’t mind waiting a week to see their favorite characters. When it was announced that Netflix would be simulcasting the first twelve episodes of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, fans were quite happy. There was nothing wrong with the animation quality, and credit goes to David Production studios. The studio has brought a high-quality adaptation of Hirohiko Araki’s manga. So where is the problem?».

«The first twelve episodes of Stone Ocean were shown worldwide on December 1, 2021. Since then, there have been no new episodes, until Netflix revealed that the next installment of the Stone Ocean episodes will be out sometime in the autumn of 2022. After some time, it was confirmed that the next batch of episodes would be premiered on 1 September 2022».

«One thing to note is that they will only release episodes 13-24 in the fall, and considering that the last few parts are about 40 episodes long, it’s infuriating to wait that long for a handful of episodes. Netflix is planning to make viewers wait for the final episode, which is very bad. It is very likely that there will be another batch of episodes, and that it will be the last, but there were no updates on the release date of the last batch, although it will be released maybe sometime in 2023».

«The long breaks between each group of episodes are very annoying, and completely break the rhythm. Compared to the old structure, the new format is very flawed. One of the biggest problems the audience would have is the inability to remember what exactly happened in the first twelve episodes. So, one would have to re-watch the older episodes to get a better understanding of what is going on. Many people prefer to wait for the third and final batch of episodes to come out before watching the first two parts, as they are tired of waiting».

«JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fans hope Netflix stops releasing the anime in batches, and even if it does, the release dates shouldn’t be so far apart. Netflix started airing Jolyne Cujoh’s story last year, and fans had to wait more than six months to see how the story unfolded. Now that the next batch is coming out soon, it would be expected that the last batch of episodes will fall in the same year.».

«All in all, it was a bad idea for Netflix to split the story into batches, as Stone Ocean was already a controversial part of the ending and treatment of one of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s most popular characters. With this idea, Netflix has only created problems for itself, unless they decide to change / add some content in the end, which could cause only anime fans. Manga fans will have to reserve judgment until they see what Netflix does with the anime ending.».
