Michelle Branch has filed for divorce from husband Patrick Carney of The Black Keys.
Branch confirmed last month the couple’s split after three years of marriage: “I am completely devastated to describe how I feel about myself and my family,” she wrote in a statement.
“The curtain has been completely pulled from me and now I have to figure out how to move forward. With children this young, I ask for privacy and kindness.”
At the time, several media outlets reported that the announcement came after Branch tweeted — and later deleted — a message accusing Carney of infidelity. The drummer has yet to publicly respond to that, nor has he commented on the split.
Shortly thereafter, Branch was arrested for domestic battery. Police responded to his and Carney’s home in Nashville, Tennessee, in response to a disturbance. The singer-songwriter told officers at the scene that she punched Carney in the face “a couple of times.”
His bail was set at $1,000 (832 pounds) and he was released the same day he was arrested.
According to Pitchfork, Branch filed for divorce from Carney in Davidson County, Tennessee, last Friday (August 12). In a court filing, she said she had “irreconcilable differences” and asked for child support and primary custody of both.
In addition, the document says he will allow “reasonable parenting” time and asks for attorneys’ fees.
Branch and Carney met at a Grammys party in 2015, and began dating while working together on Branch’s 2017 album ‘Hopeless Romantic,’ which Carney co-wrote and co-produced. They got married in April 2019 and have two children: a son born in 2018 and a daughter born in February this year.
The Black Keys released their eleventh studio album, ‘Dropout Boogie’, in May.
Michelle Branch will release a new album entitled ‘The Trouble With Fever’ on September 16.
