Michael Douglas claimed that Debra Winger was set to play the role of Kathleen Turner in Romancing The Stone, but lost the role after being stuck.
The actor, who played mercenary Jack Colton in the 1984 action-adventure comedy, explained the podcast Literally! With Rob Lowe how he met Winger while performing Terms of Endearment.
“[Winger] come with us for dinner one night and talk to us and some tequilas, “Douglas said.
“We went out and, in the same way that someone would say ‘Oh you!’ and I want to punch someone in the hand, she’s like ‘Oh you!’ and he comes over and kicks me … on the arm. I’m like, “Bitch! Bites dom.
“She’s joking around and I’m watching her think, ‘I don’t know a man, this can be rough … the skin is broken!'”
When Douglas met again with the studio and director Robert Zemeckis to talk about Winger, the actress said he could not play the role with her because of the bite incident.
“I burst into tears and say, ‘I can’t go into the jungle with her, she bit me on the arm! I can’t do it, it’s not worth it.’ So they said, ‘Okay, okay enough. ‘ “
Along with Douglas and Turner, Romancing The Stone starred Danny DeVito, Zack Norman, Alfonsu Arau and Manuel Ojeda.
Douglas will revisit his role as Hank Pym in Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania, alongside Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly and Michelle Pfeiffer. The premiere of the film is scheduled for July 28, 2023.
