Mercury Prize 2023: Here are the bookmakers’ odds for the prize favourites.

The latest bets for the 2023 Mercury Prize winner have been posted ahead of this week’s ceremony, with Loyle Carner, Young Fathers and Jockstrap among the favourites.

The 12 albums shortlisted for the Album of the Year Award were announced early in the summer.

Loyle Carner’s album “Hugo” is the current favorite to win the prize on betting website Oddschecker, with odds of 4-1.

This is followed by Young Fathers’ ‘Heavy Heavy’ at 5-1, Jockstrap debut ‘I Love You Jennifer B’ at 6-1 and Fred Again… for ‘Actual Life 3 (1 January – 9 September 2022) ‘ , which has 8-1 odds.

Irish country band Lankum’s fourth LP, “False Lankum”, is hitting 10-1, while RAYE’s “My 21st Century Blues” is 12-1. To his, “That! Feels good!” by Jessie Ware and J Hus “Beautiful And Brutal Yard” between 20 and 1.

Meanwhile, Arctic Monkeys has 25 to 1 for “The Car,” while Shygirl’s “Nymph,” Ezra Collective’s “Where I’m Meant To Be,” and Olivia Dean’s debut album, “Messy “1.

The award winner will be announced at a live ceremony at Eventim Apollo in London this Thursday (September 7), and will be judged by a panel of judges including Anna Calvi, Jamie Cullum and Mistajam, among others.

There will be live performances by Ezra Collective, J Hus, Jessie Ware, Jockstrap, Lankum, Loyle Carner, Olivia Dean, RAYE, Shygirl and the Young Fathers, each performing a track from their shortlisted album.

Fred Again… and the Arctic Monkeys are on tour this month, so they won’t be attending the show. A live performance film will be shown to celebrate each award-nominated album.

Speaking to NME recently, Shygirl said of her nomination: “I’m so hesitant because half of me is like, ‘You totally deserve this,’ and the other half is like, ‘I’m so grateful. ‘ That’s why Shygirl is like a joint in itself. I feel you have to support yourself.”

“It’s amazing to be in the room with so many other amazing artists. That’s what I’m going to talk about the most because it makes me look better. Everyone else on this list is amazing.”

In 2022 Little Simz won the Mercury Prize for their album “Sometimes I Might Be Introvert”. The London rapper released favorites Self Esteem and Wet Leg last October.
