Lewis Capaldi hasn’t finished his second album yet: “I’m Horribly Lazy”

Lewis Capaldi has revealed that he has not yet finished work on his second album because he is “very lazy”.

The Scottish singer-songwriter returned to playing live this summer, headlining festivals such as Parklife, TRNSMT and the Isle Of Wight Festival. However, Capaldi has yet to appear in any new material at the shows.

Speaking to the crowd at the start of her performance at Latitude 2022, the star explained (via BBC News): “I just want to say that I don’t have any new music to play.

“I rescheduled a lot of shows last year because I was like, ‘Guys, I have to finish my new album.’ And I had to, but I’m very lazy.”

Capaldi went on to say that he would instead focus on “old material”, largely drawn from his 2019 debut album ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Heavenly Extent’. “I’m glad you enjoy it, because we all do,” he replied to cheers from the crowd.

The 13 song set also featured a cover of Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles”.

Capaldi had originally booked the performance at Latitude 2021, but later pushed his entire performance schedule back to that year to “do my best to do my best [segundo] album i can”.

At the time, he reported on the album’s progress, writing, “I’m writing a lot of songs that I’m excited about and I can’t wait for you to hear them.”

But Capaldi explained how the COVID restrictions made it “difficult to go and record” the material he wrote during the lockdown.

Last December, Bastille frontman Dan Smith revealed he was working with Capaldi on the upcoming follow-up to ‘Divinely Uninspired…’: “I think he’s taking his time writing a lot music and spending his life.”, said .

“We love Lewis and are so proud of everything he’s done in the world. It’s exciting to see what he’s got to do.”
