Warner Recorded Music has announced the creation of a global joint venture with Lee Daniels Music, led by the legendary director, writer and producer. Daniels is behind the movies “Precious,” “The Butler” and “Monster’s Ball,” and the TV series “Empire,” among others.
The agreement covers recorded music projects, including soundtracks, as well as artist signings. His first project – the original soundtrack for the film “The United States vs. Billie Holiday,” starring Warner artist Andra Day – won this year’s Grammy for the best soundtrack for visual media. The film was directed by Daniels and premiered on Hulu in February 2021, with the companion album released worldwide through Warner Records and Warner Recorded Music. Daniels continues to have a multi-year partnership with 20th Television. The news was first reported by Deadline.

Previously, Warner partnered with Matthew Vaughn to launch MARV Music, a JV creating original music for movie-inspired films, soundtracks and album releases, as well as Patrick Moxey’s dance-hip-hop label Payday and Helix Records through ADA Worldwide .
According to the announcement, Amanda Ghost, CEO of AI Film and co-founder of Unigram (both companies backed by Len Blavatnik’s Access Industries), was involved in creating the partnership and launching the joint venture. She also acted as executive music producer on the project “The United States vs. Billie Holiday.”
