Kanye West is suing over Instagram music leaks
Kanye West has sued an unknown Instagram user for allegedly leaking his music on the social media platform.
According to legal documents seen by Billboard, West filed a lawsuit on Wednesday (September 6) regarding the unauthorized distribution of his music. The lawsuit alleges that the person (or persons) behind the popular @DaUnreleasedGod_ account violated copyright laws by leaking a number of Ye’s songs between March and August 2023. These songs include collaborations with DJ Khaled, videos of Donda’s listening party, as well. as more than 20 songs, with titles such as ‘We Did It Kid’, ‘Shy Can’t Look’, ‘NASDAQ’ and ‘Mr. Miyagi’.
West and his legal team have not identified the person or entity behind the account, but I believe it is someone who has worked with the rapper in the past. If this were the case, the person would have to sign a confidentiality agreement to gain access to the unreleased music, which would mean that leaking the tracks would be a breach of contract.
According to the reportsthe complaint will be amended to include the defendant’s name when identified.
“The defendant, without authorization, license or permission from Ye, improperly posted multiple compositions, including but not limited to the following, found on @Instagram and @X (formerly known as Twitter) ,” the claim reads. “…Ye’s musical composition, with its distinctive layout and unique features, is a trade secret because of its economic value, its confidential nature, and the efforts made to protect it.”
The lawsuit contends that the leaks have “substantially harmed” Kanye’s “work, reputation and potential income” and also alleges that it has resulted in “significant financial loss and damages.”
West is said to be seeking attorneys’ fees, as well as a permanent injunction (or injunction) “enjoining and restraining the Defendants and their agents, employees, representatives, affiliated companies and other business entities, successors, assigns and those who act in conjunction with. by them or at their direction, to the misappropriation, disclosure or continued unlawful use of trade secrets or confidential information in any form or any right in the Listed Compositions, including, without limitation, direct or indirect reproduction, downloading, distribute, communicate to the public, upload, link, transmit, publicly perform or otherwise exploit the Listed Compositions.”
Meanwhile, West has an insight into a new song called ‘Israel’, in which he raps about meeting the devil. It was also reported that the rapper was preparing to release new music “soon”.
