Summary of Kaijuu 8-gou

Grotesque Godzilla-like monsters known as “kaijuu” have appeared in Japan for many years. To fight these animals, an elite military unit called the Defense Corps risks their lives every day to protect civilians. When a creature dies, “sweepers”, working under the Kaijuu Professional Cleaning Corporation, stay behind to dispose of its remains. Kafka Hibino, a 32-year-old man, is unhappy with his job as a sweeper. From a young age, he wants to join the Defense Corps and kill kaijuu for a living.

After a few failed attempts, however, he abandoned his dreams and resigned to the madness that brought him a decent salary. However, when an ambitious 18-year-old recruit named Leno Ichikawa joins his cleaning crew, Kafka is once again reminded of his desire to join the army. After a chain of unfortunate events and an interaction with the young street sweeper, Kafka encounters a parachute-type kaijuu that slithers its way through his mouth, turning into a human monster. With his new powers, Kafka aims to give his lifelong dream one last try.
