Joni Mitchell will headline 'Joni Jam' in 2023 with Brandi Carlile

This year Joni Mitchell made an unexpected return to the stage for the first time in almost a decade, as a surprise guest at a festival, but the singer-songwriter now tells her fans that she will be performing at the Gorge Amphitheater in Washington in the month of June. 10, 2023, along with her friend Brandi Carlile and others, as part of “Joni Jam”.

Brandi Carlile appeared on “The Daily Show” on Wednesday night and confirmed that Mitchell will play one of the two nights of Echoes Through the Canyon, reminiscent of her surprise performance at the Newport Country Festival this summer, where she performed several songs as well as tribute performances. from guests including Marcus Mumford, Celisse, Wynonna Judd, Dawes’ Taylor Goldsmith and show host Carlile.

“After Newport, Joni was like, ‘I want to do another show,'” Carlile told host Trevor Noah, describing the two-night event that ran June 9-10. Carlile will be headlining one night, as he traditionally does at the Gorge every summer, and the next night will be a jam featuring Mitchell as the headliner. “No one has been able to buy a ticket to see Joni Mitchell play in 20 years,” Carlile said, “so this is huge, and she’s excited because it’s so close to Canada.”

Prior to her performance at the 2022 Newport Festival, Mitchell had rarely been seen in the spotlight since suffering a brain aneurysm in 2015, despite reports that she had been hosting private “Joni Jams” with other musicians at her California home for years. Mitchell appeared at the MusiCares Person of the Year gala before this year’s Grammys, and participated in a few group songs while being honored, but not as much as she did later at the festival.

Carlile explained that she and the other musicians on the Newport Folk Festival set were unaware that Mitchell planned to sing as long as he did: “We thought it was a jam. We didn’t know it was going to who sang every track of those songs. She had just started singing We were practicing the songs ourselves, and we didn’t know if we should stop or what we should do, so we sang with her… she always has a plan. what she wants to do, even if she doesn’t say it”.

Tickets for both nights will go on sale to the general public on October 28th at 10am PT. Pre-sale offers are available for Carlile’s fan club, the Bramily, and Citi cardholders will have a special sale starting on Tuesday. You can find more details at www.brandicarlile.com/tour.
