Experts estimate that Rogan has a staggering net worth of around $100 million.

That’s how he did it.

From martial arts to making people laugh

Joe Rogan's net worth from martial arts to making people laugh

Rogan was born in Newark, New Jersey. He was only five years old when his parents divorced, and he stopped talking to his father, who, according to Rogan, was abusive, when he was seven.

To boost his confidence, Rogan turned to martial arts and eventually won the US Open Championship taekwondo tournament. Rogan was also hugely funny, and his friends encouraged him to try his hand at comedy. Joe’s first performance was at an open mic night at Stitches, a famous comedy club in Boston.

He moved to New York City in 1990 to pursue comedy full time. In between stand-up performances, Rogan made money as a martial arts teacher, limousine driver, construction worker, assistant to a private investigator, and newspaper delivery boy.

Television actor and commentator for the UFC

Rogan’s first national television appearance was on MTV’s Half-Hour Comedy Hour. Everything went so well that the network offered Rogan a three-year contract. Rogan turned down the offer, but moved to Los Angeles, where he struck a development deal with Disney. It was followed by Roles in Hardball, a sitcom about a professional baseball team, and NewsRadio.

After NewsRadio, Rogan moved to NBC to host the series Fear Factor. She also made appearances on other TV shows and had a major role in the movie Zookeeper. Along the way, Rogan landed another job as a backstage and post-fight interviewer for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. At first, Rogan worked for free, but after 15 shows, Rogan agreed to be paid estimated at around $5,000 for a basic fight and $50,000 for each major UFC event.

Entering the age of podcasts

Joe Rogan's net worth enters the podcast era

Rogan first launched his podcast in December 2009 as a free, freeform weekly show co-starring fellow comedian Brian Redban. Just 8 months later, the podcast broke into the iTunes top 100 and was renamed The Joe Rogan Experience. In 2011, the podcast moved to SiriusXM and also changed its format to include guests. The change was successful, and as of October 2015, Rogan’s podcasts were averaging around 16 million downloads each month.

Experts estimate that Rogan was earning around $5 million per year from his Spotify deal, but he would make four times that when he signed a new deal with Spotify in May 2020. His current annual income of $20 million includes his podcast salary. and sponsorship deals. and the commission was made from podcast replays on YouTube.

Add to all that royalties from all four of Rogan’s books and you’ve yet to reap the full financial rewards of your Spotify deal and it’s clear this ex-limo driver will be cashing in for years to come.
