Jamie Reid, Sex Pistols artist and punk legend, dies at 76
Jamie Reid, responsible for the iconic illustrations of the Sex Pistols and legends of the punk scene, has died aged 76.
Louder Than War broke the news of his death, without yet revealing the reasons or details.
Reid’s career was marked by the explosion of British punk in the late 70s, when he created memorable artwork for Sex Pistols hits like “God Save The Queen” among others.
His creations in a décolage style became synonymous with the movement and are closely linked to the style and sound of the Sex Pistols.
Paying tribute to Reid online, writer Jon Savage, who worked with Reid on the 1987 book, said: “RIP Jamie Reid, best known as the designer of the classic Sex Pistols era 1976-79.”
“His ability to translate complex ideas into strong images was the perfect accompaniment. He and I did a book together in 1987: It’s good.”
