Jake Shears and Self Esteem have joined the West End cast of the Cabaret production – check out the official preview video below.
Shears, lead singer and lead singer of the Scissor Sisters, will be a member of the singer-songwriter ‘Prioritise Pleasure’ (real name Rebecca Lucy Taylor) on stage at the Playhouse Theatre’s Kit Kat Club from 25 September to 20 January.
Both will feature Emcee and Sally Bowles, respectively. They will replace current cast members Mason Alexander Park (Quantum Leap) and Maude Apatow (Euphoria).
In a statement, Shears said, “It is a great privilege and honor to put on this incredible show. I am especially excited to share the stage with the force of Self Esteem.”
“This role was the dream of my life and I couldn’t imagine a better production to be a part of.”
Taylor added: “I’ve never hidden my love for theater and I couldn’t be more excited to make her stage debut as one of the greatest actors of all time.
“I’ve joked for years that there’s no need for a self-respecting musical because Sally’s story covers most of the points. I’m artistically and emotionally eager to take on this challenge.”
Directed by Rebecca Frecknall, the current incarnation of London Cabaret opens in 2021. The official description reads: “Winner of seven Olivier Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical, this intimate and electrifying new production of Cabaret is the London is the hottest. the Kit Kat Club.
“One of the most successful musicals of all time, the songs ‘Wilkommen’, ‘Don’t Tell Mama’, ‘Mein Herr’, ‘Maybe This Time’, ‘Money’ and the number Headline are included in this new production of the West End’. Cabaret’ – featuring Berlin’s famous Kit Kat Club brought to life by transforming London’s Playhouse Theatre.”he recalled the experience on social media.
Last year he scored the music for Jodie Comer’s Prima Facie for the West End and Broadway.
Jake Shears released his second solo album, “Last Man Dancing,” in June.
