GOT7 singer Yugyeom has announced a new single, “Ponytail,” which will be released next week.
The K-pop idol took to Twitter on December 26 to make the surprising announcement, revealing that the single will be officially released next week, on January 2 at 6 pm KST. The announcement was also accompanied by new concept photos for the release.
However, it is not yet clear whether “Ponytail” will be part of a larger work that will come in the singer’s future.
Not only will the release of “Ponytail” mark her 2023 debut, but it will also be her first solo release since teaming up with Coogie on “Take You Down” in March. That single album also featured a B-side bonus track called ‘Lights’.
Before ‘Take You Down’ and ‘Ponytail’, Yugyeom released his first solo mini-album ‘Point of View: U’ in June 2021, a seven-part album featuring the title track ‘All Your Fault’.’ , by GRAY In a four-star review of the EP, NME’s Natasha Mulenga wrote that the GOT7 member was “using his newfound freedom to assert his independence and make a clear statement about the kind of artist he is.”
Last month, Yugyeom’s record label AOMG announced the Asian leg of his upcoming “Follow The Movement” world tour, which will feature a group of AOMG artists, including member GOT7. Loco, GRAY, Lee Hi, and Simon Dominic are also on the bill alongside Yugyeom.
Starting in the second week of 2023, the tour will pass through Singapore, Bangkok, Manila, Tokyo, Osaka and Hong Kong, before concluding with one final show in Taiwan.
In other news, K-pop band NCT 127 will appear on CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live later this week as a K-pop representative. In an interview with host Kristie Lu Stout, the group will discuss the achievements and milestones they have achieved over the past year, as well as their new plans for the coming year.
