It’s the Edo period, an era where the samurai are still very important – at least they were, until all sorts of aliens called Amanto decided to take over and revolutionize Japan so it wouldn’t be so uncivilized. In Edo, now a city where anachronism is the rule rather than the exception, Gintoki, a former samurai, tries to make ends meet by doing odd jobs. During his work, Shinpachi, a future samurai; and Kagura, an absurdly strong girl, joins him. Of course he made them work for free, how else could Gintoki buy Shonen Jump and strawberry milk, let alone pay for trivial things like rent if he had to support someone other than himself?
