Florence Welch returns to the stage after undergoing emergency surgery, in a duet with Ethel Cain
Florence Welch is back on stage for the first time since emergency surgery last month, performing two duets with Ethel Cain.
The performance, which took place at the MEO Kalorama festival in Lisbon, Portugal, was Florence + The Machine’s first headlining performance since the band were forced to cancel several concerts in August.
At the time, Welch said that while he doesn’t feel “strong enough” to share the details of his ordeal yet with his fans, last month’s emergency operation “saved his life”.
“I’m so sorry I had to cancel the last few shows,” he wrote, explaining that it was unrelated to a broken leg that caused a UK tour to be postponed earlier in the year.
Now, it looks like the singer is on the mend as she not only returned to the stage for her headlining performance, but also surprised fans when she entered the stage by Ethel Cain.
Before joining her band, Welch made a surprise appearance during Cain’s evening performance, joining her to sing a duet of “Thoroughfare,” from last year’s debut album, “Preacher’s Daughter.”
That same day, Cain returned the favor during his headlining set, joining Welch and company for a joint performance of “Morning Elvis,” the final track on Florence + The Machine’s 2022 album “Dance Fever.”
Morning Elvis” was performed by the two last year when they met in Denver. The recording was later released as a promotional single. You will find pictures from the performances below.
Last week’s live appearances, along with a headline performance at Cala Mijas in Malaga, marked the end of Florence + The Machine’s scheduled concerts for 2023, and came after Welch announced he was “on medical advice”. , that he would no longer be playing at the Zurich Open Air Festival and Rock en Seine.
Ethel Cain, however, is to continue her live performance career by embarking on a solo tour of the United States, which will continue until next month.
It will begin with a concert in South Burlington, Vermont on October 3rd, and will conclude with a performance in San Francisco on October 24th. Find all tour dates and remaining tickets here.
In other Florence + The Machine news, earlier this year Welch shared his emotional reaction to seeing one of his songs appear at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 .
The moment when her classic “Dog Days Are Over” appeared in the film’s emotional conclusion, left her in tears.
