The American singer-songwriter announced the planned hiatus on her social media, revealing that she will refrain from touring for an “indefinite period of time” once her UK concerts are over.

In the post, which was shared yesterday (August 15), Furman explains that there are a number of factors that led her to make this decision, including an “explosion in popularity of transphobia”, “an ever-increasing number of company-owned music venues” , “COVID- 19′ and “the demands of motherhood”.

He also revealed that he has been dealing with some “disturbing” encounters with his community in recent years which have made it more difficult for him to hit the road.

“There are so many reasons for that. The best way to sum it up is that I’ve been doing this really great job for something like seventeen years (!) and I’m tired,” she continued. forward. Recent events such as the popular explosion of transphobia, corporate-run music venues, COVID-19, maternity claims and some disturbing public encounters have made it even more difficult for me.”

“Even without those things, any kind of touring is fucking hard. The pressure and exhaustion is huge. It has a big impact on the body and the mind and the skeleton of a person’s life,” said Furman.

“Since I was a teenager (Covid times aside), I’ve never gone 6 months of my life without going on tour. That’s because I love it, always will and always will. But it’s time for me to explore life without her and follow my instincts about what it takes to take care of myself.

Later in the post, he also clarified that his break from touring should not be misunderstood as “done” with music and creativity, as he plans to write more music in the future.

Furman’s next UK gig will take place at Cardiff’s Tramshed on 31st August. The last of their concerts will take place at the O2 Ritz in Manchester on September 2nd. Find the remaining UK concert tickets here.

Ezra Furman began a solo tour in 2011, following the Harpoons’ split later that year. The group was originally together from 2006, but after disbanding, Furman spent the next decade touring solo.

He has also released six solo albums, including his latest “All Of Us Flames,” which was released last year. In a three-star review of the album, NME described it as capturing “anger, ambition and relentless attitude”.

“While the album encompasses the struggle of a community of wise people emerging from a divided society, it also encompasses the intersections of Furman’s experiences: a transgender woman and a Jew,” he says. “Without preaching, the musician brings out his coordinates, which is that the Bible is above all about lifting up the weak.”

“It can come out as something heavy and ponderous, which leads us to wonder: once, a simpler approach could work better to really put the message? intertwined with Furman’s melodic voices, with musical sensitivity and reverberation. In parts, however, ‘All of Us Flames’ is an example of less being more.”
