Estimated damages from manga piracy consumption are estimated to exceed 1 trillion yen in 2021

The IS ABJ (Authorized Books of Japan) reported on January 15 that the economic damage to the manga industry from illegal consumption through piracy sites in 2021 is estimated at 1.0019 trillion yen, equivalent to about 8.77 billion US dollars. This figure represents an increase of 4.8 times compared to the figure reported the previous year.

Asian Nikkei reported on 1 January that companies and organizations from more than thirteen countries are cooperating to the International Anti-Piracy Organization (IAPO)which will be launched in April. The IS Overseas Distribution Association (CODA) Japan at the heart of the new organization. CODA includes 32 Japanese companies such as Kodansha, Shueisha, Shogakukan, inflexible, Kadokawa, Sunrise, Studio Ghibli, Bandai Namco Arts, Online Game Pony Canyon Y Toei Animation, among others.

IAPO will also include the United States Motion Picture Association (which has six members, incl Sony pictures Y Netflix), and about 450 members of the Chinese Copyright Association. Business companies and copyright protection groups from South Korea and Vietnam are also expected to participate in the coalition government.

IAPO will work to prevent manga and anime piracy and also to assist law enforcement with criminal investigations on the ground, especially where such criminal investigations require law enforcement cooperation from multiple countries.
