Ella Baila Sola', with Eslabón Armado and Cleite, selected World Song of the Summer by Spotify (EXCLUSIVE)

As summer draws to a close, Spotify has crunched the numbers to find out which song topped its global chart system for the summer of 2023. The streaming platform topped the chart, with 367 million streams this summer here, we find “Ella Baila Sola” by Eslabón Armado and Peso Pluma, the first Mexican regional song to top off a long list of firsts for the latest booming Latin genre.

The song is penned by rising stars Featherweight, 24, and quartet Armed Link, all also in their 20s. La Union made history as the first Mexican regional song to enter the top 10 on Billboard’s all-genre singles chart and was the first Mexican regional song to be featured on late night television when Peso Pluma made an appearance on ” The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.”

“Ella Baila Sola’ as the World Song of the Summer is a true confirmation of how Mexican Music is at the forefront of the international music scene, being one of the fastest growing genres in the world,” said Antonio Vázquez, Spotify Latino Editorial Manager in the United States. Música Mexicana, in general, offers a rich cultural tapestry that straddles tradition, emotion and modernity, making it accessible and exciting to both Latino and non-Hispanic music listeners. The strong appeal of this song shows the power of Mexican Music, proving that a moment in the sun is more than a moment.”

Spotify’s Global Songs of the Summer chart is based on Spotify’s charts and only counts streams between May 29 and August 14.

“Where She Goes” by Bad Bunny came in second place, followed by “Ella Baila Sola” and “Seven (feat. Latto)” by Jung Kook and Latto. In third place was “Cruel” by Taylor Swift, which tops the Billboard’s Hot 100 Songs chart for the past few weeks, along with other Swift songs – see the full list here.

Spotify also looked at the most streamed songs in the US, where Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” tops the chart as the first country song ever to reach the top. Wallen is followed by “Ella Baila Sola” and “Cruel Summer” by Taylor Swift.

Rachel Whitney, Managing Editor at Nashville, said: “It’s no surprise that ‘Last Night’ is the most streamed song of the summer in the US. It’s been inescapable since it first came out, and for good reason. That’s a win. .crosses the country genre, with elements of R&B, pop and, of course, country, between the beat, the catchy hook, the strumming guitar intro and Wallen’s trademark southern…”.
