Elizabeth Taylor’s ‘Elizabeth The First’ Podcast, narrated by Katy Perry, Announces Release Date

The release date of Katy Perry’s new Elizabeth Taylor podcast series, Elizabeth The First, has been announced, and a teaser for its first episode has been released.

Billed as “the original collider”, the ten-part series will include stories from those closest to Taylor (who died in 2011), as well as audio from the Taylor House archives.

Perry will cover topics such as Taylor’s time working (and struggling) in the male-dominated film studio industry, her activism to promote awareness of issues such as HIV and AIDS, and alcohol and drug abuse.

The series will also look at Taylor’s rise to become the world’s highest paid actress in the 1960s, when she successfully negotiated her first million dollar deal to star in Cleopatra in 1963.

Produced by Imperative Entertainment, Elizabeth The First arrives Monday, October 3, available on all major podcast platforms.

Coinciding with the premiere date news, a teaser for the first episode of Elizabeth The First was released on 15 September.

Clocking in at just under three and a half minutes, the teaser is heard as Perry calls Taylor “the first real influence … living an extraordinary life.”

“He had power, real power, to influence generations,” says Perry.

Following the series’ announcement in March, Perry said in a statement to Variety: “Like most people, I was drawn to its glamour, and in my own life, I still find references to it through some of my his visions.

“I’m inspired by her bold activism, her steady moves as a business manager, and through it all, unapologetic love—all things I try to live by in my own life.

“It’s an honor to be able to share his story in this way.”
