Dominic Fike says he was almost kicked out of ‘Euphoria’: “I was really isolated for a lot of the show”
Singer and actor Dominic Fike, who played the role of Elliot in the second season of HBO’s Euphoria, revealed that he almost quit the series.
Speaking to Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Fike revealed that he wasn’t at his best during the filming of the second season of Euphoria. Fike, who was a drug addict in real life, explained the difficulties he faced in playing the role of a drug addict.
“I was a drug addict and it was very difficult to get into a drug-related show,” Fike told Lowe. “Sam [Levinson], the director and writer, I found a sober coach for me, someone who was there all the time. It didn’t work.”
When asked if he showed up on the high platform, Fike replied: “Oh my God, yeah man. I was so fucked up for a lot of the show. I was so bad. I got almost kicked out of the show. They said, ‘Brother, you can’t do this.'”
Fike was asked if he was stoned in some of the scenes they used, and he said yes. Lowe showed the hypocrisy of that decision, saying that the producers had warned Fike not to take drugs, but still they incorporated such footage into the show. “That’s entertainment, man,” said the actor. “They give you a bunch of money and say, ‘Yeah, figure it out, mate. Sink or swim.'”
Fike released his second album, “Sunburn,” on July 7 through Columbia Records. That record earned a three-star review from NME’s Erica Campbell, who wrote: “‘Sunburn’ still functions as a love letter to the place where he grew up, however, allowing Fike to come home not only to the uncultivated state wet, but for himself.”
Fike recently announced his first UK tour this September. The tour will begin on September 19 in Glasgow, at the O2 Glasow Academy.
