Coolio’s latest appearance on Futurama includes a new song from the rapper, as well as an on-screen tribute.
The rapper died on September 28, 2022 at the age of 59. He was best known for his 1995 hit “Gangsta’s Paradise” (which recently returned to the charts), theme love & fame “Aw, Here It Goes,” and his various film and television appearances.
Before his death, Ivey recorded dialogue for the upcoming reboot futurama as Kwanzaa-Bot, the character he first appeared in two episodes in 2001.
In his latest episode titled I Know What You Did Next Xmas which airs on Monday (August 28), Coolio raps about his Christmas list.
“Yo, Santabot, I’m going to narrow down my ‘Futurama’ X-Mas list by 3023. Are you ready? I’m about to get cute,” he raps as Kwanzaa-Bot. “Kwanzaabot, yes! Give me 12 slurping Slurms, 11 burping Benders, 10 dropping episodes!”
At the end of the episode, the rapper is honored as Kwanzaa-Bot disappears into the distance and a message reads: “In Memory of Coolio”.

In April, Coolio’s cause of death was an accidental overdose of fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Department.
According to published notes on the case, the late rapper (real name Artis Leon Ivey Jr.) suffered from unspecified cardiomyopathy (cardiomyopathy is defined as a chronic disease of the heart muscle) as well as asthma, although it is not said that any of the. two had a direct impact on his death. Recent use of phencyclidine (PCP) was cited as one of Ivey’s “other significant conditions”.
The rapper’s first post-natal album, ‘Long Live Coolio’, will arrive in late 2023 (exact release date still to be confirmed). So far, the single “TAG, You It”, featuring Too $hort and DJ Wino, has been previewed.
