Charli XCX reveals details of her new record deal
Charli XCX has revealed that she has signed a new record deal.
pop artist said in 2020 that her last record, 2022’s ‘Crash,’ is her “fifth and final album under my current record deal” with Atlantic Records, which she signed when she was 16.
During an appearance on British Vogue’s ‘In The Bag’ series, Charli showed the camera her “making a new record” for “two albums”. And he said: “We are moving!”
No further information about the singer’s new contract has been revealed yet. Some fans have suggested that she may have signed with the indie label Dirty Hit, which includes The 1975, Rina Sawayama and No Rome, with whom Charli collaborates.
Last October, Charli told NME that she was “not sure” if she wanted to be an independent artist when her contract with Atlantic expired: “There are a lot of interesting options that suit me,” she explained .
“I like not having to foot the bill for everything up front, that’s pretty scary. Especially when you’re trying to do things on the scale that I did on the last record. I’m still inquiring, sure.”
Elsewhere in the new video for ‘In The Bag’, Charli talks about writing “so many dodgy lyrics” in the past. “I really think the dumbest lyrics are the best,” he said. “My main example of that, for me, is a song I wrote called ‘I Love It’.”
You can watch the full interview in the video above.
Charli recently remixed Caroline Polachek’s single “Welcome To My Island” by George Daniel, from The 1975.
During an interview with NME at the 2023 BRIT Awards, he said: “I think [Polachek] it’s just legendary. He is an angel sent from heaven, I love him. And I was very honored when she asked me to revive her song because she is a great writer and producer.”
Charli also criticized the BRITs for this year’s list of Male MP of the Year candidates.
Meanwhile, Charli XCX is in the studio with Robyn and Patrik Berger, producer of some of the couple’s biggest hits.
