Three years after Gearbox released Borderlands 3, the game is finally getting cross-play with Playstation consoles.
Gearbox’s latest release, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, came with cross-platform support on all platforms, including PlayStation. So it’s no surprise that the company’s previous title soon gets the same support.
When Borderlands 3 released in 2019, it supported cross-play for all platforms released on it, excluding Sony PlayStation Consoles. Sony seems to have made this decision, but now this is changing.
During a Gearbox keynote address at PAX East, it was announced that Borderlands 3 crossover for Playstation consoles would be coming next spring.
While many titles offer cross-play between PlayStation and other consoles, Sony seems to have shortened the developers of this feature. During an Epic lawsuit against Apple last year, documents revealed that Sony had cut developers based on the popularity of a game on Playstation Network and calculated costs to offset potential lost revenue.
However, now that Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and Borderlands 3 support Playstation cross-play, it looks like a new deal has been reached, or that Sony has levied the fees for allowing cross-play on their platforms .
Gearbox recently announced that it will release a new narrative adventure game set in the Border universe. It will be a sequel to Telltale’s Tales From The Borderlands, which will be released in 2014. The sequence will be set in the same style as the original Telltale version. However, Telltale itself will not be involved in the project.
The game will be released in 2022 and will feature new characters and stories, suggesting that it will not be a direct sequel to any game in Borderlands franchises.
In other news, Project Q is a new third – person shooter from Ubisoft, unveiled after several leaks.
