ASTRO member Rocky will be leaving the K-pop boy band and their agency Fantagio Music after his contract expires.
The news was confirmed via Fantagio, Soompi reports. Fantagio wrote in his statement, “After deep discussions with Rocky, who has been with us as a member of ASTRO for the past seven years, it has been decided that he will end his exclusive contract with our agency and his activities as a member of ASTRO.”
“ASTRO will remain a group of five in the future, and together with Fantagio, the members will focus on unit and individual activities for the time being. We plan to actively give them our full support so that they can [los miembros] be active in a wide range of fields.”
Fantagio also thanked Rocky “for doing his best for a long time as a member of ASTRO, and we will wholeheartedly support Rocky in the future.” The agency has also thanked fans and encouraged them to “continue to show their interest and support to Rocky as he starts anew.”
Rocky has no control over his departure from the group or his future professional plans.
Before the news of Rocky’s departure from the group, Fantagio confirmed in late December that members Jinjin, Cha Eunwoo, Moonbin, and Yoon Sanha had renewed their contracts with the agency. Apart from Rocky, the only member who has not switched with Fantagio at the time of this news was MJ, who is serving his mandatory military service and is scheduled to discuss renewing his contract when his service ends .
ASTRO’s last release as a full group was their May 2022 album “Drive To The Starry Road”, which featured the song “Candy Sugar Pop”. Despite going on sale a week after MJ enlisted in the army, the idol took part in the recording of the album and the music video for the lead single.
