Akira Toyama’s Sandland will get an animated adaptation in 2023

Akira Toyama’s Sandland will be animated, as announced earlier today with a teaser trailer. The one-volume manga adaptation will be produced by SUNRISE, Kamikaze Douga, and ANIMA. The release date is set for 2023, coming more than 20 years after the original release date.

Land of the soul – Teaser

Sandland was originally serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from May to August 2000 and later published in one volume. Viz Media licensed it in English in 2003 and described the plot as:

In the distant future, war has destroyed the entire Earth, leaving only a barren wasteland where the water supply is controlled by a greedy king. In search of a long-lost lake, Sheriff Rao asked the Demon King for help…and found the King’s son, Beelzebub, and his sidekick, the Thief. Together, the unlikely trio sets out across the desert, facing dragons, bandits and the deadliest enemy of all… the king’s army himself! It’s a travel adventure and tank action in this new story from Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball Z!

Akira Toyama is best known for his hit shonen series, dragon ball.
