NME caught up with Abby Roberts on the BRITs 2023 red carpet, where she discussed her memories of the awards growing up and the new music she’s working on with her mentor Halsey.
“I have a new single coming out very soon that I wrote with someone very special, Halsey,” the TikTok star said. “We wrote it a few weeks ago and we fell in love with it so much that we were both like, ‘We need to get this out right now. The world needs to hear it.’ I think I’ve learned to . working with her a lot and I’m really glad people are hearing it.”
When asked what kind of advice Halsey has for her, Roberts said: “I had a lot of imposter syndrome going into this and it happened so fast. She told me the only way to be successful is to tell yourself that you already are and believe it, fake it till you make it. It’s a lot of ways I carry through my life.”
Roberts previously praised her “amazing coach and mentor” at last year’s NME BandLab Awards, where he presented Halsey with the Innovation Award alongside Jamz Supernova.
“Friends came over a few months ago when I was in Los Angeles,” Roberts explained. “I didn’t even know Halsey knew me. But we hung out for a while, he hit it off right away, and we became good friends.
“Honestly, he’s one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met and a great coach and mentor, especially since I’m just starting out in music. I’m excited for the summer.”
Roberts opened for Halsey on her Love and Power US tour last year.
