A previously unreleased Frankie Knuckles remix was released
A Frankie Knuckles remix created ten years ago has finally seen the light of day.
The late house DJ and Eric Kupper created the remix, a cover of “Waiting On You” by Ultra Naté and Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams, under the alias of Director’s Cut.
Regarding the song, Ultra Naté stated: “The remix was a nod to my mentor, my older brother and cultural icon, Frankie Knuckles, officially ‘The Godfather of House Music’, who at the time was doing his way again. production work as ‘Director’s Cut’ with Eric Kupper”.
Naté later confirmed reports that Knuckles approved the release of the track before his death in 2014.
The ten-year-old release coincides with Frankie Knuckles Day, a celebration taking place in Chicago on August 25th in honor of the late producer and pioneer of the house music sound.
“Waiting On You” has always been the centerpiece of the “Hero Worship” album and there is no better time than now to release it on Frankie Knuckles Day,” said Naté.

Knuckles was known as the “Godfather of House Music” and shaped the sound of the genre that emerged and became popular in Chicago in the 1980s. He died on March 31, 2014 at the age of 59 from complications from type 2 diabetes.
Kupper paid tribute to the producer on X/Twitter ahead of Frankie Knuckles Day tomorrow.
“As we celebrate Frankie Knuckles Day tomorrow, August 25, I’m posting this photo from the last time Frankie and I played together, 10 years ago, October 2013 at ADE in Amsterdam,” he wrote. “I miss you, brother Frankie. Thank you for taking care of me and guiding me musically.”
The “Waiting On You” remix isn’t the first Frankie Knuckles remix that hasn’t been released recently. Another hour-long mix recorded in 1986 was released last year.
